New Creations

As the new year draws near, I am busy thinking of new pieces to make. I am constantly inspired by new beads and colors and am eagerly researching bead sites and trying to find something that stands out.

I think these just might be my all time favorites! They are blue matrix jasper. I love that they are nugget shaped, medium in size, and the color is almost perfect!

I have to place a new order for these beads. I am thinking of designing an entire line around them. These beads were used in my favorite pair of earrings as below. Don't you just love them?

Bead Trends

I have been lucky enough to become a monthly contribute to Bead Trend magazine. If you haven't seen it before, it's worth the the money to pick on up and flip through it...you can even get an online version! It is a monthly magazine that features really great artists and fun and inspiring designs.

I just sent the above bracelet in along with the matching necklace and earrings for a future publication. My favorite thing about this piece are the really beautiful jasper nuggets that are such a crisp green. I am a total fan of natural stones because I love the inconsistencies that appear in them. These green nuggets are a perfect example of that! They are all different in color, texture, pattern, but they are all similar at the same time.

This is a really great summer piece and will definitely be on my spring line list I will be sending to my stores in January!

Organizing My Office Space

I am looking for a better office space. Since our home is so small and space is at a premium, I think a great desk with storage space would be perfect. I saw this really great desk with hutch over top of it that I thought was really great from restoration hardware. But it's almost $3000!!! WAY TOO MUCH! But it's the kind of think I am looking for.

I need space for my computer, some desk space to work, and some really great storage space for all of my beads, tools, paperwork, etc. Love this but think I will be loving from afar for a really long time!

Any suggestions?

BRRRRRRRR.......

As I sit here in the cold cold cold NYC weather, my mind is always thinking about summer. I love everything about it! I would much rather be hot and sweating my tush off than have to wear 4 layers of clothing just to go outside.

Most of my designs also reflect that of the summer months... just to show you where my mind is most of the time!

See my below ETSY faves that feel like summer to me!

EXHAUSTED!

Exhausted from the weekend and the awesome Handmade Cavalcade on Sunday. LOVE my etsy team! Everyone is great and the show was a great success!

Just when I thought I could start winding down and concentrating on the holidays to come, I have to now work on my wholesale line list and press kit. My goal for next year is to do maybe a couple shows in the spring, 3 or so in the summer, one in the fall and one holiday show. I did a lot this year and can now narrow down the shows I really want to do.

However, my main goal is to start selling in stores in a big way next year. So, I have to get all the paperwork together to start the mailings in January! A very daunting task but needs to be done!

Elves Abandon North Pole for Downtown NYC
Third Annual Holiday Handmade Cavalcade

NEW YORK, NY (October 15, 2010) – Santa’s Workshop isn’t the only place to find quality, handcrafted items for the Holidays.
New York has its own enclave of busy craftspeople who work all year long to create one of a kind items that make truly unique gifts for
everyone on your list. These modern day elves, The {NewNew}, are a collective of local artists, artisans, designers and crafters who sell
on Etsy.com, the largest online marketplace for handmade goods.

The {NewNew} shares its handmade artistry at the Third Annual Holiday Handmade Cavalcade, Sunday December 5th, from
11am – 8pm at the Openhouse Gallery at 201 Mulberry Street in NoLita, NYC. Forty designers and crafters, all living and creating in the
metropolitan area, will take over the space with perfect gifts: one-of-a-kind handmade clothing, jewelry, accessories, paper goods, bath
and body treasures, toys, and housewares.

“With a turnout of more than 2,000 people each year, the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade is fast becoming a great New York City winter
tradition,” says Karin Persan, the event’s coordinator. “For nine hours on Sunday, December 5th, we will transform NoLita’s Openhouse
Gallery into a holiday shopping wonderland.” In addition to the high-quality, handmade wares for sale, visitors will have the
opportunity to participate in winter-themed crafting demonstrations, interact with our event sponsors, including Starting Artists, Knitty
City, Lion Brand Yarn and the Hester Street Fair, and mingle with local artisans in our lounge over delectable treats. “The adventurous
shopper will not want to miss this opportunity to choose from the fantastic designs locally crafted by this year’s eclectic and talented
mix of vendors,” Persan said.

Admission to this indie shopping event is free. “Make sure to arrive early: the first 200 guests will receive a free gift bag filled with
wonderful treasures donated by The {NewNew} and the event sponsors,” Persan said. “Shoppers can also enter to win one of five tote
bags filled with extra-special handmade items.”

Etsy Update!

Keep checking back daily for my Etsy updates! I am updating my shop to be completely full of awesome new pieces for my black friday and cyber monday sale as well as getting ready for my big holiday show in December.

Sometimes when I made a piece of jewelry, I may feel kind of let down that it didn't really turn out as I had invisioned. That is not the case with this necklace. I love the way it turned out! So organic, but really pretty. This is really something that can be worn with a casual look, but I also envision this as a New Years Eve piece!

I hope you like the new additions!

My love for chalcedony!

Stay tuned for some really great pieces I've made getting ready for my NewNew show in December. I'm going to start listing some new pieces tomorrow. Keep checking back daily for updated items.

I found these chalcedony stones in one of my favorite bead stores. I think this is my favorite stone because it is 1-blue (my favorite color!) and 2-they come in a really great range of blue. I picked this strand out of about 10 because the color was so vibrant and is just really stunning!

I wore this bracelet today to "try in out" as I do with most pieces. I like to know how they wear and how they feel before I sell them to anyone. I had 3 compliments in about an hour!

It's a pretty simple design. The stones are so beautiful by themselves that I didn't want to take away from their beauty.

Enjoy and keep checking back for new stuff!

Get ready to order!!!!

Buy some jewelry so I can buy a new bag!!!!

I mean it! Please buy some stuff so I can buy a new bag! I LOVE bags...I am from the school of thinking that one can never have enough bags! I love all kinds, but mostly the ones big enough to hold some "stuff" and can be easily carried on the shoulder. I guess "tote" is the best description. I do love clutches but find them to be not so practical when I have two kids with me most of the time and must have both hands free for wrangling!

Lauren is a great designer from Brooklyn that I shared a spot with at a street fair in September. Everything is hand made, by Lauren herself! I love the unexpected pops of colors and patterns she uses.

Take a look at here stuff on Etsy! Enjoy!

So Very Busy!!!

Just when I think I have time for a breather, something else comes up. I just got done doing 4 back to back weekends of shows. Considering I spend the entire time just standing in the same spot, it really is very tiring!

I am busing doing many things to get ready by the end of the year. There is a "challenge" going on among some designers to submit 5 pieces using some type of cording or ribbon in the design to possible use for a book! WOO HOO. I'm totally in on this one! I have been published in a lot of magazines, but no books! That would be very cool!

I am also buys making some new pieces for the monthly submits to the beading magazines. I think my favorite right now is Bead Trends.

I also need to start pulling together some new collections for the spring/summer. I have decided to do only two new lines a year, spring/summer and fall/winter. I have a bunch of ideas and need to coordinate on a board and thing about the designs/colors/beads to use. Will take some pictures and post along the way.

One more show for the year coming up the first Sunday of December. Trying also to think of my display for this show considering it isn't and 10 x 10 tent space, only a 6" table. It's the New New group putting on this show so there will be tons of great designers and one of a kind items that would be great for X'mas giving! We are holding in in Soho this year, more details to follow.

Beat Trends, October 2011

I just received some great editorial in Bead Trends October 2011 Magazine featuring my Matrix Earrings. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these! I think out of everything I have made, these may be my very favorite! I mostly love the color combos and how all the colors are total opposites, yet blend so beautifully together! And the color of the blue matrix jasper's I think may be my most favorite color!

After doing a few shows and working directly with customers, I find that a lot of people are looking for something in a color that MATCHES another color. I think this is a mistake. A big big mistake! First of all, you are never going to find something that totally matches another color, it will always be a little off. So, instead of trying to match, you need to do a contrast color instead! So, if you are wearing a burgundy top, why not throw on some really great ocean blue earrings? Again, they are a complete contrast but still look great together! The shirt makes the earrings pop, but still work well with the contrast top color.

These earrings are a perfect example. All different colors are used, but the colors are all in the same family and sit so well together.

So, that's my word of advise to you today... Don't match, contrast!

The Matrix Earrings are currently on my ETSY site for sale!!!

Halloween is Coming!

I love Halloween...it's my second favorite holiday, next to 4th of July! It has definitely become much more fun in the last 6 years with the addition of my children. My oldest, Madeline, was born on October 29th and we brought her home from the hospital on Halloween. I will never forget how warm it was that day, maybe around 70 degrees? And every Halloween since then has been really warm which makes it great weather to be outside walking around trick-or-treating!

In celebration of Halloween, I have made up a whole collection of what I am calling "Day of the Dead" pieces that have skulls as the focal point. I used mostly ceramic skulls by Gaea who is a fabulous ceramic artist in California! Unfortunately, time does not permit me to list all of the pieces on Etsy, but a fair amount are represented so if you love skulls the way I do, go on over to my ETSY shop and check them out!

You can visit me next at the NYACK, NY street fair on Sunday to see my full collection! Hope to see you there!

Overwhelmed

Summer is officially at an end. No more weekends away, running around...we get to stay home FINALLY for the first time in months. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE summer, but it's nice to be home once in a while.

With that being said, I am feeling more overwhelmed than ever. I am giving my full time "day" job 100%, spending my off time with my kids...and when they are in bed, I am spending all of my time trying to build my jewelry business. I have lists and lists of things to do, and have no idea when I will get to any of it. I am having heart palpitations and feel like I might have a nervous breakdown at this point.

I have to find time to sit down with my list and try and figure out where I can find the time to get everything done. I wish I could have a week off, all by myself. I think I would miss my family too much! :)

Children.....

I belong to a great group, The New New. It is a group of artists in NY that sell on the FABU site Etsy.

As I was browsing through some blogs from the New New, I came accross this one. It's very amusing especially since I have two little ones.

Enjoy!

Upcoming Shows

I have been so busy with jobs, kids, traveling...I need a vacation! A week on the beach, just sitting there staring out at the ocean all day would be great...however, no vacation is in site!

I'm going to be very busy in the next two months!

Last weekend was the Long Beach Craft Fair on the boardwalk on Long Beach in Long Island. It was so incredibly beautiful...right on the beach...couldn't ask for anything better! Saturday was a great day, Sunday was a wash out! It rained and then the wind kicked up around 2 so we packed up and left. It was kind of disappointing that Sunday was such a bad day, but we roll the dice doing shows outside.

The next shows I will be showing at are:

Sunday 9/26- Atlantic Antic in Brooklyn
Sunday 10/3- Hoboken Craft Show
Sunday 10/10- Nyack Street Fair
Saturday 10/16- Crafts in Chelsea

Whew...four shows back to back might just put me over the edge...but I will try and keep it together!

I hope you can come to see me at one of the shows!

Carnivals, Fairs, Summer, Fun

http://www.etsy.com/listing/51683304/bryant-park-carousel-digital-color-print

As the end of summer is in site, we are trying to do as much "summer fun" things as humanly possible in the next few weeks. One of the thing we all enjoy is Rye Playland. The kids love it, we love it... fun for everyone!

I draw inspiration for my work from so many places. I love carousels, ferris wheels, all the color of amusement parks.

Here are some really great pictures from Etsy of all things I enjoy...hope you do too!!!
